In a recent development, the Caretaker Chief Minister, Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the performance of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Azfar Mahesar of the East Zone in Karachi. The disapproval was conveyed through an official letter of displeasure issued by a Section Officer of the CM Secretariat.
The official correspondence, a copy of which is available with taftesh.com, explicitly outlines the various shortcomings attributed to DIG Mahesar. These include his alleged failure to effectively control crime, drug trafficking, land grabbing, and a lack of compliance with the Chief Minister’s directives to conduct inspections of police stations.
DIG Mahesar has reportedly received a stern warning concerning his performance, particularly in relation to issues such as crime, drug trafficking, sheesha smoking, gutka use, and the illegal sale and purchase of land. The letter emphasizes that these failures have resulted in the Chief Minister’s profound dissatisfaction.
Moreover, the official communication underscores DIG Mahesar’s neglect in carrying out inspections of police stations and other relevant formations responsible for patrolling duties, contravening explicit directions from the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister, through the letter, has underscored that DIG Mahesar’s lack of adherence to directives is considered willful disobedience and delinquency. The Deputy Inspector General has been forewarned that failure to improve performance and demonstrate greater diligence in the future may lead to the matter being referred to the Establishment Division for disciplinary action under the Efficiency and Discipline (E&D) rules.
The communication explicitly conveys that non-compliance with the Chief Minister’s directives to curb crime and illegal activities will be treated as willful disobedience and delinquency, potentially warranting further action by the Establishment Division.
Earlier in 2019, the same police officer, who was at that time was SSP of the same East zone of Karachi, become the target of the former CM Syed Murad Shah, when a video of target killer Yousif alias ‘thaliay wala’ associated with the MQM went viral. In the same video Yousif ‘thailay wala’ was claiming his close association with the former CM Syed Murad Shah.
